PROJECT 3A: BLACK BOX (PICTORIAL)

This project requires me to produce 8 square boxes and I have to arrange them in order to produce an orthographic drawing with plan, front elevation and side elevation. It is challenging that each faces of the box must of different color.I used A2 paper to make the body of the boxes and the surfaces were colored by watercolor.

The completed orthographic drawing.
I measured their height and each sides carefully according to scale 1:4 so that the drawing shows the actual measuring more precisely.

I measured the angle of the actual cube combination when I was doing the drawing too. This helped
to give viewers a better understanding about my project. The angles were  important because any discrepancies of it would make viewers to misinterpret my product.

Last but not least, the reason I arranged the boxes in such way was to construct an object that was long enough so that the drawing of it could be more challenging and I was able to implant the concept of orthographic drawing in my mind more deeply.

PROJECT 2B:NATURAL STRUCTURE

The design is a lotus with water dropping onto it.

I used 8 pillar-like structure to represent the leaf with 5 other smaller one with lighter color situated below it as a support.

I also chosen cubic square as the background to give a cool feeling which helps viewer to focus on the flower body. The squares can also be seen between the flower and the leaves to create a space and dimension.

PROJECT 1B (FULL SIZE)

PROJECT 1A (FULL SIZE)

PROJECT 1B : ME MYSELF AND I (TONE AND TEXTURE)

My name is Chan Guan Heng. I was born in 30 August 1991 at Ipoh,Perak.

All the while in my secondary and Pre-U education,I've been a Science stream student but I know art is my interest when i was a kid.

To me, art is a way for me to communicate with the inner self by interpreting the outside world and define them with my own way through drawing.

After SPM,I applied Architecture in JPA overseas scholarship but unfortunately I was not selected. Anyway, looking back from my current position in USM, I think it was somehow a ''fortune'' that I took another path to pursue my dream.

The person that inspired me the most is Leonardo da Vinci.I admire him as an architect, engineer, painter, inventor and scientist who was able to see things far beyond his time. His unquenchable curiosity and unparalleled devotion in his profession are values that I have to inculcate in myself.

To me,as an architecture student in USM,I will try my best in facing every challenge that lies in front of me to improve my skills so that one day I am able to contribute to my country with my profession.

PROJECT 1A : MY LINK (LINE AND SHAPE)

The first idea that appeared in my mind when I was given the task to design a personal logo was TIME.Upon entering USM, in the depth of heart, I have a strong feeling that time really passes like river that is flowing without me realizing its pace. How strange that all these nostalgia ran wild in my head.

I remembered countless night and day spent on studies.

I remembered the fleeting opportunities that I failed to grab.

That's why I learnt to love and forgive, for the greatest punishment in life is to regret. It requires a pure heart and a peaceful state of mind to seize the moment ,and to express this in the logo, I thought of lotus.

In  Chinese proverb, it says ''Lotus grows in muddy land but remains stainless''.The design of 7 petals of lotus symbolize the 7 principal element of APEX which I saw on a signboard while waiting for bus near the Sg.Dua entrance, namely The Future, Uniqueness, Sustainability, Humanity, Universality, Change and Sacrifice. These 7 identities remind me to have the insight as an APEX student in order to excel in my future life.

In overall,I wish to express the PAST(falling leaves from an old tree), PRESENT(Sun that always rise),and FUTURE(lotus carried away by river to the unknown future) of my life journey through this personal logo.

The ultimate message I wish to express is that time and tide wait for no men, seize every moment to do your best  so that you will lead a life with no regret.
