PROJECT 6: ANALYSIS OF HBP SPACES (COMPOSITION)

In this assignment 6, I was required to produce an analysis of HBP using A2 paper as the medium..
I decided to
make a display of HBP's academic information with views of School of HBP which I think are attractive.

In the process of gathering information, I refer to http://hbp.usm.my/ and Dr.Azree's posts on Facebook.

I also spent some time to take the photos of HBP in different time of a day to observe the changes of built
environment's feeling within a day.

The sunrise view near HBP (upper right) and my studios (lower right)

The Key Plan of Penang Island, Location Plan of USM and Site Plan of HBP.

The night scene of the main office and resource centre.

The programme structure of HBP

In conclusion, I design the board wishing to show the uniqueness of HBP, its multi-facade view of night and day.

I believe its history and beauty should be appreciated by everyone in USM, or outsiders and last but not least, those who cherish the ambition to be enrolled in any prestigious programme of HBP.

PROJECT 5A: THE MASK

For this project, I was required to come out with a mask with design of facial expression. As the first step, I placed several layers of tissue paper on my face as the foundation for moisture purpose as the process of making the mask took several hours.

Then, layers of newspaper were soaked in water and were pasted on the tissue layer. The process was repeated for about 10 times to thicken the mask so that it will become more durable.

To ensure the layers were correctly pasted and to avoid confusion, each layer was pasted with different colours.

Finally the mask's model was completed and ready to be used...after 5 hours.

After placing the last layer of tissue paper, the mask was now finished and can be coloured.

Here comes the completed mask!!

The mask's design pattern was inspired by my Japanese friend, Rika who shared her experience of viewing aurora in Norway. The design was mainly curvy lines of different thickness and  natural features such as green leaves are noticeable.

Basically, the usage of cool and warm colours were adapted and was boldly expressed to give a vivid and strong feeling of contrast.

I wish to express the feeling of dilemma when I enter a space of many strangers and I don't know the right way to approach them. In the depth of my heart, I wish to know them but I am too afraid to take the initiative...so there is a warm colour combination on the upper part to express my suppressed passion.

But then, the colours turn cool when it goes down, it resembles the turning point of my feeling because i soon  lost my idea and realised that I have no gut to talk to them.

And silence comes to play .

So the mask has no mouth.

But at this moment ,

I MISS YOU.

SO MUCH.

BUT I CAN'T TELL YOU.

PROJECT 4B: BLUEPRINT ( PARALINE )

Based on the sculpture that I have produced in the previous project,I was required to produce drawing of plane and elevations.

As shown in the picture above, I displayed ( from left hand side) the left side view, front view, right side view and back view. There is the top view on top of the picture of front view. The views were drawn according to the ratio of 1:3 and every details of the sculpture was observed and carefully measured so as to produce a drawing of high precision and accuracy.

The above is the axonometric drawing of my sculpture. At first, I have no idea how an axonometric drawing looks like but I managed to complete it after getting guidance from lecturer AR Najib and my group tutor Dr Azree.I also seek advice from my senior Mr.Tan who was also graduated from USM Architecture.
This might not be a perfect axonometric drawing but I believe I had put in the best I can and I learned something about it.

The 2 pictures above show the 2 drawings I produced on A3 paper.

PROJECT 4A :SCULPTURE ( MULTIVIEW )

This is the sculpture I created for the project 4A issued previously.Tome, making a sculpture is something very new to me.I spent 2 days just to figure out the design of a sculpture which carries the theme ''Sustainability''.

After much consideration, I made up my mind to produce a cylinder-like structure which was wrapped by layers of  ''leaves''.The sculpture is in green monochrome and has a height around 50 cm.
The top view of the sculpture clearly shows the layers that surround the body.It brings a meaning of caring
and love that we, human being should have in ourselves towards the Mother nature.

Looking from side, it gives a harmony of tones and texture which reflects the peace of the natural environment we are looking for.

PROJECT 3B:BLACK BOX (PICTORIAL)

From the combination of 8 boxes I made previously, now I was required to produce a series of perspective drawing of it.In this assignment, I have to use the studio because my boxes was placed there.

This is the first time for me doing my assignment in studio and I have to say that it was a nice and fruitful experience. In studio,I have the chance to work together with my classmates and share our points of view and exchange ideas about the assignment.

It meant more than a drawing task after I went to the studio because I realized the importance of communication and sharing our ideas with other people because we learn and together. I recalled one of my favourite quote of Immanuel Kant ''Out of the crooked timber of humanity, no straight thing was ever made'.
and I felt really grateful for all my friends in studio and lectures in class who have dedicated their time and guided me in this assignment.
So far, this is the assignment that I learnt the most, not in academic but  in the aspect of humanity and  unselfishness.
